Elected to office of Mayor in November of 2005 and acclaimed to Council in May 2004, this is Karen’s seventh term for the Village of Nakusp, having served on Council from 1987 to 1996 and from May 2004 to Nov. 2005. Karen currently serves on several committees including Ferry Advisory Committee, Community Consultative Group and Community Health, CCD&S(Council, Chamber, Development Board), Music Festival Agreement Committee and Emergency Services Building Committee. She is currently the Municipal Director for the Regional District of Central Kootenay and Director for the West Kootenay & Boundary Regional Hospital Board. RDCK appointment to Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust and Columbia Basin Trust Community Treaty Advisory Committee(Vice Chair). Formerly served on Hot Springs, ALTIA and Community Forest committees. Community involvement includes being a director of Community Futures Development Corporation of Central Kootenay since 1991 to 2008(resigned in June) and held the position of the chair of the Self Employment Committee for CFDC of CK; Past President of the Nakusp and Area Development Board; Council representative and Past Chair of the Arrow Lakes Senior's Care Society and member of the Halcyon Assisted Living Committee which worked with Arrow and Slocan Lakes Community Services to bring assisted living to Halcyon House. Elder at Robertson Memorial United Church from 1992-2008. Current Chair of the Steering Committee for Community Initiatives and Affected Area Funding for CBT funds; Treasurer for the Nakusp and Area Community Foundation; Coordinator of the Music in the Park. Retired from Arrow Lakes Hospital as the Health Records Supervisor. Likes to paint with water colours and works with various other media in her art work and plays guitar when she finds the time.
