Winter Adventures

Here Are A Few Ideas For Winter Fun Around Nakusp and Area

Contact our Nakusp Visitor Centre for details on these activities and more suggestions for winter adventures in our area. And don’t forget to check out the Nakusp Visitor Centre’s local events calendar to see what’s happening now!

Sled / Snowmobile

There are numerous locations for great sledding in our area. Forest service roads run up the valley, as far as the Tenderfoot Glacier. Come and check out our backcountry!

We get lots of snow . . . lots. Watch for the Arrow Lakes Ridge Riders hosted poker runs at various times during winter.

Ski to your heart’s content: X Country, Downhill, Heli or Cat!

Snowshoe – Snowboard – Skate – Play Hockey – Curl!

Our Wensley Creek Trails, maintained by the Arrow Lakes Cross Country Ski Club (find them on Facebook), are a great XC workout, and we’ve got more XC trails (Peter Roulston Trail, unmaintained) up by the Nakusp Hot Springs.  The Jackrabbit Interpretive Trail is ideal for snowshoeing!  Trail details can be found here.

Check out our local Summit Lake Ski Hill and Tube Park – in addition to their great downhill runs (T-bar); they have a cross-country and snowshoe loop. The Summit Lake Ski Hill has operated under the Nakusp Ski Club Association (N.S.C.A.) for 49+ years. It is a small, community-based ski hill run through the efforts of dedicated local volunteers.

Join ice enthusiasts at the Nakusp & District Sports Complex for public skating, local hockey, curling programs and bonspiels, and all sorts of fun!

Fishing

Try for “the big one” in a local fishing derby, fish all year long in the open waters of the Arrow Lakes, and go ice fishing in Summit Lake.

Soak up a Bit of Culture

The Arrow Lakes Arts Council hosts fine cultural events, such as pianists and plays, between September and March.  Relax and get caught up on your reading at the Nakusp Public Library.

Relax. Refresh. Return.

The Nakusp Hot Springs is open all year and is especially beautiful and relaxing on a crisp winter evening with light snow falling . . .  it’s magical.

Nakusp Celebration of Light – Late November

An annual event includes a Parade, games for all ages, warm food, and community spirit.  For more information, reach out to the Society for Nakusp Community Events.
