Freedom of Information

Most of the Village's information is available to you upon verbal request. Please ask the Village staff; they will gladly assist you wherever possible.

Formal Freedom of Information (FOI) Requests

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act applies to all records under a public body's custody or control. If the information you seek is unavailable through routine channels, you may request a Freedom of Information for records.

Unlike routine requests, the Act requires that requests for access to records not regularly available be made in writing. Your written request must provide sufficient detail to assist staff in locating and retrieving the records you are looking for.

A $10.00 application fee is required. Once payment is received, we will process your request quickly and within the 30 business days specified in the Act. If your request is broad in scope, or if a large volume of records relating to your request, we may extend the time limit for responding under the Act for an additional 30 business days.

Making a Request for Access to Records

You may request access to records using a Request for Access to Records form (PDF) or by writing to the Village of Nakusp. All requests must be made in writing, signed by the applicant, and be accompanied by the application fee of ten (10) dollars. If you request access to another person's personal information, please attach a signed consent form for disclosure for the person(s) involved OR proof of authority to act on that person's behalf.
