The Nakusp & District Sports Complex is the recreational hub of our community, housing our:
indoor squash courts
four-sheet curling rink
auditorium with concession facilities (used for large events)
arena (ice hockey, figure skating, public skating . . .)
The Complex accommodates a diverse number of events and user groups. During emergencies, it has been used as an evacuation center and a base for firefighters. Our children grow up figure skating or playing hockey in this building, and when they graduate or get married, the Complex is their venue of choice. Senior citizens utilize the auditorium as a walking track in the winter, and many fairs, theatres and events are held in this building.
Nakusp & District Sports Complex is located at 200 8th Ave NW.
More Information
Residents and visitors can book Village-operated facilities and park space by contacting the Recreation Clerk at rec_program@nakusp.com. Every facility booking requires a signed Facility Rental Agreement, fees paid, and satisfaction of insurance requirements.
Renters of facilities are generally required to obtain liability insurance. If you do not have insurance coverage or know how much you need, please visit the link below to access affordable coverage that meets the Village's requirements.
Follow the link below to access the Village's rental fees. You may be eligible to use park areas for free if you are a not-for-profit organization. Other opportunities exist to apply for fee waivers or reductions through the Nakusp & Area K Joint Service Commission.
The Nakusp & Area K Joint Service Commission comprises the RDCK Area K Director and all members of Council for the Village of Nakusp. The Joint Service Commission sets rates for the different rental spaces within the Nakusp & District Sports Complex, such as the Auditorium, Ice Rink and Curling Rink, to name a few. An application for a fee waiver or reduction can be requested and is adjudicated by the Joint Service Commission. Applications are reviewed twice a year during the following meeting schedule:
The first meeting will be held immediately before a Regular Council meeting in June.
The second meeting will be held immediately before a Regular Council meeting in November.
The Village parks, streets and sidewalks can also be occupied seasonally, on a one-time basis for an event or an ongoing event. The Use of Public Property Bylaw provides requirements that are to be met. Please contact the Village Office if you have any questions or are looking to occupy public property.
Squash memberships are available for purchase in the Village Office. Rates are set for an individual, a couple or a family. Access to the squash courts will be communicated with you upon purchase of your membership.
