General Voting Day for the Local Election is coming up! We want to remind voters, candidates, and their representatives about some important rules around voting locations.
You cannot do certain election-related activities within 100 metres of a voting location. This includes the following locations in Nakusp:
Maps showing the 100-metre areas around each voting location are attached above for reference.
Within 100 metres of a voting location, you must not:
- Ask people to vote for or against a candidate or otherwise try to influence how someone votes;
- Display, hand out, post or leave a picture or copy of a marked ballot showing a particular voting result;
- Post, display or hand out election advertising or material that identifies a candidate or elector organization; or
- Wear, carry or give someone a flag, badge or other item that shows support for a candidate, elector organization or a particular voting result.
These rules apply to everyone, including voters, candidates, and their representatives.
For more information about election offences, please see Section 163 of the Local Government Act.
