News Release
The Village is pleased to announce that the Waterfront Master Plan is now complete. This plan provides a clear, community guided vision for how the waterfront should evolve over the next 10 to 15 years as aging underground infrastructure is replaced.
The plan is based on extensive community input and focuses on making the waterfront more enjoyable, welcoming, and accessible. Improving access for people with mobility challenges—especially our growing senior population—was a major priority. The plan also accounts for increasingly variable reservoir levels, which have become more noticeable in recent years. It is flexible and broken into smaller projects that can move forward as funding, infrastructure needs, and community priorities allow.
Completing this plan now is important because much of the infrastructure—above and below ground—is reaching the end of its lifespan. The Village used existing grant programs to fully fund the creation of the plan. Without a plan in place, the Village would not qualify for many future grant opportunities, which could lead to higher taxes. Developing this Waterfront Master Plan shows Council’s commitment to long term planning, community involvement, and reducing future costs.
The plan also aligns with the Village’s Trails Master Plan, Accessibility Plan, and Wayfinding Plan to ensure consistent decision making across all projects. Its creation was required under section 7.3.10 of the Village’s Official Community Plan (OCP).
