Annually on May 1, Stage 1 water restrictions are automatically implemented within the Village of Nakusp unless already in effect.
In the past few days, driven by increased temperatures, we have noticed a doubling in Village water usage which has placed additional pressure on the system. Stage 1 restrictions are designed to reduce peak demand while still allowing residents to maintain their lawns and gardens in a controlled manner.
Limiting watering to the below-detailed times helps to ensure that enough water is left in our reserves to provide fire protection and potable drinking water.
What Stage 1 Water Restrictions Mean
Under Stage 1, watering of lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas is permitted on a modified schedule based on address numbering:
- Odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered days only; and
- Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days only.
Permitted Watering Times:
- Between 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and between 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM for hose supplied sprinklers; and
- Between Midnight (12:00 AM) and 6:00 AM for underground automated sprinkler systems.
Please note that watering is also permitted at any address on any day for the following reasons:
- Hand watering of flower gardens, vegetable gardens, decorative planters, shrubs or trees; and
- Drip irrigation or micro sprinkler irrigation for watering flower gardens, vegetable gardens, decorative planters and shrubs to trees.
