In mid-June, staff and contractors finished shaping and lining the new ponds at the Nakusp wastewater treatment plant in mid-June. This is the first tangible step in the wastewater treatment plant optimization project. The ponds allow the existing lagoons to be bypassed for maintenance while still treating effluent. Effluent from the ponds will go to the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) plant for further treatment prior to being sterilized by UV and pumped to the outfall. The next step in this project is connecting the ponds to new bypass points in the existing lagoon system.
