Village crews will be performing unidirectional flushing today, April 16, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. This work may continue into tomorrow, April 17, 2026. Village crews will be performing this work to clear the water mains of any potential concentrations of manganese.
Recently, manganese levels within the Village Wells 2 and 3 have fluctuated between acceptable and above the Maximum Acceptable Concentration. As a precaution these Wells are not adding water to our system. Flushing is a means to ensure there are no pockets of elevated manganese levels located in the system.
If you experience discoloured water today, April 16, 2026, or tomorrow, April 17, 2026, please follow the following steps:
- Run the outside tap closest to the Village's water line for ten (10) minutes;
- Remove the aerators (screens) from your taps inside the house;
- Turn the cold water tap on and let the water run for ten (10) minutes; then
- Place the aerators back on your taps.
As a precaution, we recommend following the above steps for each property at the end of day today and tomorrow.
Your water pressure during this time may be low; however, if you experience no water/a complete reduction in water pressure, call the Village Office at 250-265-3689.
What We're Doing to Resolve This
IHA is aware of the situation, no orders have been issued to the Village regarding the manganese levels.
Levels of manganese have been fluctuating seasonally, and we have observed that the levels drop as we move into spring. If this does not occur, we will be required to keep Wells 2 and 3 off-line and water restrictions may be required.
Council has already authorized the engineering and design of a treatment system capable of removing manganese from our well water. Once completed, staff will request that Council authorizes the associated construction of the required water treatment system to resolve the issue.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we ensure the best quality of drinking water for everyone.
