Fair elections matter.
Did you know there are rules in place to help ensure local elections are fair, transparent, and respectful for everyone?
Under provincial legislation, election offences fall into two categories:
- General Election Offences – such as vote-buying, intimidation, providing false information, interfering with ballots, or campaigning within 100 metres of a voting place during voting proceedings.
- Campaign Financing Offences – which relate to campaign financing and election advertising requirements under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act. These rules help ensure accountability and transparency throughout the election process.
Whether you're a candidate, campaign volunteer, or voter, understanding these rules helps protect the integrity of local elections and ensures everyone has the opportunity to participate fairly.
