The reservoir cover replacement project required the old cover to be off of the reservoir for a portion of a day. Because of this, the water inside needed to be retested to make sure nothing got into it. Testing is in progress. The new cover is sealed in place on top of the reservoir and the water treatment plant is operating normally. As a precautionary measure, the Village is putting the upper pressure zone, mostly in the Glenbank area, under a boil water notice.
Owners of all public facilities must post a Boil Water Notice at all sinks or drinking water fountains accessible to the public (alternatively, public fountains and taps may be turned off). As opportunities arise, they must also advise their clientele verbally of the Boil Water Notice. The Village of Nakusp and Interior Health recommend that all customers drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. Water intended for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute. Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container.
Once the test results are back and confirm the safety of the water, the boil water notice will be lifted. A precautionary boil water notice is commonly used on reservoir projects to ensure that the utmost care is taken to deliver high quality drinking water. The Village works in coordination with its contractors and Interior Health to make sure that construction projects are completed in the safest manner.
