Some of the most common licences and permits that the Village issues are listed below. We have provided the essential information for some of the standard licences; however, please get in touch with the Village Office for more details.

Applications must be submitted to the Village office along with the appropriate fee. Village staff will happily advise you on fees and the estimated processing time for your application.

The Village of Nakusp values its local businesses and extends a warm welcome to prospective and new businesses in Nakusp.

Who needs a Business Licence?

The Village of Nakusp requires resident and non-resident businesses operating within our boundaries to hold a valid and current business licence.

Prior to commencing business, a business licence must be obtained. If your business is located in the village, your business licence must be posted on the premises in a conspicuous place at all times. If you are a non-resident, you must carry a licence while conducting business within the boundaries of Nakusp.

All building permits within the municipal boundary for Nakusp are submitted to the RDCK Building Inspector's office. Building permits can be picked up in the office or downloaded from the attachment below. More information about building and development can be found on our Develop Nakusp website.

Dog Licence

Starting in January, dog licences can be renewed annually in the Village Office. For those who renewl their annual dog licence within the month of January will receive a discount.

Dog's caught at large in the community without a licence by the Animal Control Officer are required to purchase a dog licence from the Officer and an additional fee is applied to the regular dog licence rate.

Installation of a Memorial Bench or Picnic Table

Memorial Bench & Picnic Tables

The Village of Nakusp allows citizens to donate an approved memorial bench or picnic table to public space for everyone to enjoy. The program requires the applicant to purchase the memorial bench or picnic table and purchase a memorial plaque to have installed and delivered to the Village of Nakusp. Our crews will install the item and provide annual cleaning and care.

If or when the memorial bench, picnic table, or plaque becomes an eyesore, the Village will contact the owner to allow them to replace the item. If the owner does not want to replace the item, the Village will remove the memorial item and open the space up for a new memorial item.

Are you looking to set up a seasonal patio, run a food truck or have a parade? These situations and others require a Licence to Occupy. The Use of Public Property Bylaw is attached for your review; however, if you have questions or cannot find information about what you are looking to do on Public Property, please contact the Village Office.
