Water Capital Projects

Current Village Water Projects

The Village is undertaking several important water infrastructure projects to ensure safe, reliable water service for our community now and into the future. These capital improvements will help maintain system integrity, improve water quality, and support long-term sustainability.

Current projects include:

  • Water Intake Improvements – Upgrading intake infrastructure at Halfway and Brouse creeks to reduce maintenance needs and improve efficiency. The goal is to cut staff filter-cleaning time by half through improved design.
  • Valve Exerciser – Purchasing a motorized valve exerciser to improve efficiency and reduce strain on staff while performing routine maintenance on over 300 water valves throughout the Village.
  • Reservoir Cover Replacement – Replacing the aging reservoir cover to protect water quality and meet updated safety standards.

Regular updates will be posted here to keep you informed about project milestones and any potential impacts.

Water Intake Improvements - IN PROGRESS

Water intake improvements are being worked on by upgrading intake infrastructure at Halfway and Brouse creeks to reduce maintenance needs and improve efficiency. The goal is to cut staff filter-cleaning time by half through improved design.

Due to Village staff turnover, we are not expecting this work to be completed in 2025.

Valve Exerciser - COMPLETE

The valve exerciser has been purchased by the Village. This was purchased to improve efficiency and reduce strain on staff while performing routine maintenance on over 300 water valves throughout the Village.

Reservoir Cover Replacement - COMPLETE

The 1,000,000 Gallon Reservoir (the Million) holds treated water from the water treatment plant. It provides gravity pressure and fire flow capacity for the Village's water system. It was originally constructed as a concrete reservoir. It was subsequently lined with a flexible membrane and covered with a Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) cover. The cover prevents any untreated water and foreign objects from entering the potable water supply. This is a requirement for public health and is regulated by Interior Health. The old cover was at the end of its expected life and has now been replaced.
